June 2019 saw the wonderful cortijo wedding ceremony of Nigel with Debbie in Nerja, the jewel of the Costa Del Sol.

The couple wanted a fun and intimate wedding ceremony in Malaga that reflected their personalities so chose a bespoke ceremony written especially for them by an independent celebrant who could weave their love story into their symbolic ceremony whilst keeping the feel of a traditional marriage. With a candle lighting ritual to honour those who couldn’t be present on their special day, readings by each of Debbie’s three daughters and personal vows of commitment, there was love, laughter and lots of happy tears as the couple said, “I do”.

British couple Nigel and Debbie spend much of their time in Nerja so opted for a local country house, Cortijo Maria Luisa to hold their wedding ceremony and wedding celebration which was easily accessible from this pretty whitewashed coastal village and less than an hour from Malaga international airport. This beautiful private Spanish venue set in stunning grounds with views across to the sparkling Mediterranean has a luxurious outdoor four poster bed next to the designer swimming pool making a perfect backdrop for romantic photos of the bridal couple.
Wedding styling in the Spanish sunshine
The leafy wedding canopy where the couple exchanged their vows was decorated with orange Strelitzia or “Bird of Paradise” flowers reflecting the bride’s bouquet and groom’s button holes. Nigel and Debbie wanted a bright theme to stand out in the startling Andalucian sunshine and to reflect the happy and fun wedding vibe. From the fairy lights to the illuminated LOVE letters, every element of their wedding ceremony in Spain was planned and styled.
Gourmet Spanish cuisine
Local outside caterers seamlessly guided wedding guests from the wedding ceremony area to a separate terrace for canapes and cocktails whilst the poolside was set up for a sunset gourmet wedding meal. Experienced friendly staff quite literally catered for the wedding guests’ every need throughout the celebration.
Wedding ceremony planning to make dreams come true
As a wedding planner, it is so important to interpret the dream of each individual couple to make their vision of their perfect day a reality.
A local guitarist sang and played the bride down the aisle to her favourite song as she entered on her father’s arm. He continued the relaxed informal vibe with an acoustic set during the early part of the celebrations with a well-known DJ taking over for the dancing as the evening progressed.
Giving money at a wedding is a popular tradition in Spain, with a generous spin on this custom, Nigel and Debbie had asked guests to make a donation to a dementia charity that was especially close to their hearts. Interpreting that wish, a couple of pretty white wedding post boxes were provided for guests to discreetly pop their contribution into an envelope.
From making the visual dream of the wedding styling a reality, to connecting the couple with the ideal suppliers, to ensuring that every element of the special wedding day passed seamlessly, the Nerja wedding of Nigel and Debbie at Cortijo Maria Luisa was planned to perfection.
